Earth's Energy
Definitions
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Chemical Energy | That part of the energy in a substance that can be released by a chemical reaction. |
| Energy | Is the ability to do work or produce change. |
| Fuel | Supply or power. |
| Heat | Make or become hot or warm. |
| Kinetic Energy | is the energy of anything in motion. |
| Law of Conservation of Energy | says that energy can't be created or destroyed. |
| Non-Renewable Resources | A non-renewable resource is a natural resource which cannot be produced, grown, generated, or used on a scale which can sustain its consumption rate. These resources often exist in a fixed amount, or are consumed much faster than nature can create them. |
| Potential Energy | is energy that is stored. |
| Renewable Resources | any natural resource that can be replenished naturally with the passage of time. |
| Coal | a combustible black or dark brown rock consisting mainly of carbonized plant matter, found mainly in underground deposits and widely used as fuel. |
| Crude Oil | A mixture of many different hydrocarbons. |
| Fossil | Animal skeletons, teeth, shells, or any other remains or trace from a living creature that becomes a rock. |
| Fossil Fuel | A natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms. Got from Google.com |
| Hydrocarbon | a compound of hydrogen and carbon, such as any of those that are the chief components of petroleum and natural gas. |
| Natural Gas | flammable gas, consisting largely of methane and other hydrocarbons, occurring naturally underground and used as fuel. |
| Nuclear Energy | the energy released during nuclear fission or fusion, esp. when used to generate electricity. |
| Oil | is a liquid fossil fuel that is extremely useful because it can be transported easily and can be used in cars and other vehicles. |
| Biofuel | a fuel derived directly from living matter. |
| Conduction | the process by which heat or electricity is directly transmitted through a substance when there is a difference of temperature or of electrical potential between adjoining regions, without movement of the materia |
| Radiation | divergence out from a central point, in particular evolution from an ancestral animal or plant group into a variety of new forms |
