Naloxone (Narcan)

Narcan: Opioid Antagonist

Narcan: Normal Route IV/IM/SQ Check again to see if secondary dosage is needed.
Opioid Antagonists: Names Narcan, Naloxone, Revex, Re Via, Depade
Narcan: Action Competes with opioids for receptors, causing decreased ability of opioid effects, etc.
Narcan: Therapeutic Action Used for the treatment of an overdose, reverses effects of opioids, Increased respiratory function in infants.
Narcan: Contraindications Contraindicated in clients with opioid dependency.
Narcan: Side Effects Causes tachycardia, tachypnea, abstinence syndrome, pulmonary edema.
Special Considerations: Narcan Withdrawal symptoms may occur if client is on opioid recreational drugs.
