| Abiotic Factor | A non-living chemical or physical factor in the environment, such as soil, pH, forest fire, etc. |
| autotroph | organism capable of making nutritive organic molecules from inorganic sources via photosynthesis (involving light energy) or chemosynthesis (involving chemical energy). |
| biological community | roup of interdependent organisms living and interacting with each other in the same habitat. |
| biomass | the total mass of organisms in a given area or volume. |
| biome | a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e.g., forest or tundra. |
| biosphere | he regions of the surface, atmosphere, and hydrosphere of the earth (or analogous parts of other planets) occupied by living organisms. |
| biotic factor | A factor created by a living thing or any living component within an environment in which the action of the organism affects the life of another organism, for example a predator consuming its prey. |
| carnivore | an animal that feeds on flesh |
| carrying factor | largest number of individuals of a particular species that can survive over long periods of time in a given enviroment, this level depends on the effect of the limiting factors |
| detritirove | an animal that feeds on dead organic material, esp. plant detritus. |
| ecology | the branch of biology that deals with the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings. |
| ecosystem | a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment |
| food chain | a hierarchical series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food. |
| food web | a system of interlocking and interdependent food chains. |
| habitat | the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism. |
| herbivore | an animal that feeds on plants. |
| heterotroph | an organism deriving its nutritional requirements from complex organic substances. |
| migration | seasonal movement of animals from one region to another. |
| mutualism | A symbiotic relationship between individuals of different species in which both individuals benefit from the association. |
| niche | the specific area where an organism inhabits. |
| omnivore | an animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin. |
| population | A group of organisms of one species that interbreed and live in the same place at the same time (e.g. deer population). |
| population growth | Science: epidemiology) increase, over a specific period of time, in the number of individuals living in a country or region. |
| predation | he preying of one animal on others. |
| trophic level | position in a food chain or Ecological Pyramid occupied by a group of organisms with similar feeding mode. |
