| What are mannans? | Bacterial cell surface polysaccharides. They are "patterns". |
| What is LPS? | Composed of Lipid A and cabohydrates, it is present in Gram-negative bacteria and is a potent endotoxin. This is a "pattern". |
| What are lipotechoic acids? | Distinct extracellular structures found in bacteria that are detectable "patterns". |
| What is importance of N-terminal formyl-methionine? | The N-terminus of most bacterial proteins is formyl-methionine. This is not found in vertebrates so it is another distinguishing attribute of pathogen "patterns". |
