Atom is the smallest particle of an element that has the characteristics of that element.
Base is any substance that forms hydroxide ions (OH-) in water.
Compound is a substance that is composed of atoms of two or more different elements that are chemically combined.
Covalent Bond when two atoms share electrons.
Element also known as, everything is made of substances.
Ion is a charged particle made of atoms.
Ionic Bond the attractive force between two ions of opposite charge is known as this
Isotope atoms of the same element that have different numbers of electrons.
Metabolism all of the chemical reactions that occur within an organism.
Mixture a combination of substances in which the individual components retain their properties.
Molecule a group of atoms held together by covalent bonds.
Nucleus the center of an atom.
pH the measure of how acidic of basic a solution is.
Solution a mixture in which once or more substances(solutes)are distributed evenly in another substance(solvent).
Diffusion is the net movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
Dynamic Equilibrium the condition where there is continuous movement but no overall concentration change.
Hydrogen Bond the attraction between hydrogen and oxygen's opposite charges forming a weak bond.
Polar Molecule a molecule with unequal distribution of charge.
Amino Acid the basic building blocks of proteins.
Carbohydrate is a biomolecule composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen with a ratio of about two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom for every carbon atom.
Enzyme a protein that changes the rate of an chemical reaction.
Isomer compounds that have the same chemical formula but different three dimensional structures.
Lipid are large biomolecules that are made mostly of carbon and hydrogen with a small amount of oxygen.
Nucleic Acids is a complex biomolecule that stores cellular information in the form of a code.
Nucleotide nucleic acids are polymers made of these smaller subunits.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
