| Amplification | The increasing of the strength of an electrical signal |
| Vibration | A rapid, back and forth motion |
| Decibel | The unit that measures sound intensity |
| Resonance | The strengthing of a sound wave when it combines with an object's natural vibration |
| Vacuum | An empty space with few, if any particles |
| Pitch | The quality of the highness or lowness of a sound |
| Hertz | Unit for measuring frequency and pitch; one complete wavelength per second |
| Doppler Effect | The change in observed pitch that occurs when the source or the one who hears a sound is moving |
| Intensity | The amount of energy a sound wave has |
| Acoustics | The scientific study of sound |
| echolocation | Sending out ultrasound waves and interpreting the returning sound echoes |
| Sonar | Instruments that use echolocation to locate objects |
