inquiry the thought processes involved in solving a problem
cell the basic structural and functional unit of all organisms
prediction It’s a guess, sometimes based on facts or evidence, but not always.
observation information that is gathered through the senses
experiment to conduct a test or investigation
biology the study of life and living organisms
hypothesis is an idea or explanation that you then test through study and experimentation
scientific theory a theory that explains scientific observations
scientific law an observation that has been confirmed repeatedly and is accepted as true (although its truth is never final)
experimental investigation the use of controlled observations and measurements to test hypotheses
homeostasis refers to a cell's home state––the way it wants to be, and should be if everything that regulates the cell is working
metabolism the chemical processes (in a cell or organism) that are necessary for life
heredity the biological process whereby genetic factors are transmitted from one generation to the next
reproduction the biological process of generating offspring
evolution the sequence of events involved in the evolutionary development of a species or taxonomic group of organisms
inference an idea or conclusion that's drawn from evidence and reasoning,an educated guess
dependent variable a variable whose value depends on the independent variable
interdependence the relationship between organisms that rely on each other
control parts of an experiment that remain the same and do not change
independent variable factor that is controlled and kept constant during an experiment
