Phases, Tides and Eclipses (Key terms)
| Term | Definition |

| Phases | The different shapes of the moon you see from earth |
| Eclipse | An event in which an object in space comes between the sun and the third object, and casts a shadow on the third object. |
| Solar Eclipse | When the moon passes in directly between the sun and Earth, blacking sunlight from Earth. |
| Lunar Eclipse | When the earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon. |
| Umbra | The very darkest part of the moon's shadow. |
| Prenumbra | The larger part of the moon's shadow |
| Tide | The rise and fall of ocean water that occurs every 12.5 hours or so. |
| Spring Tide | a tide with the greatest difference between consecutive low and high tides. |
| Neap Tide | a tide with the least difference between consecutive low and high tides. |
