Cell The basic unit of life
Organelle Structure within a cell that performs a specific function
Cell Theory Theory that states that all living organisms are composed of cells; the cell is the basic unit of life; and cells come from pre-existing cells
Nucleus Large organelle that contains genetic material (DNA)
Cell Wall Stiff outer barrier of a plant cell, outside the cell membrane, which protects the cell
Cell Membrane Structure that surrounds the cytoplasm of the cell
Mitochondrion Structure in the cell that transform the energy in food not a form cells can use to carry out their activities.
Vacuole In a cell, fluid-filled structure that holds water, waste products, or substances needed by the cell.
Chloroplast A structure in a plant cell that contains chlorophyll
Cytoplasm Gel-like fluid that takes up most of the space inside a cell.
