Biologists use Various Forms of Inquiry to Explore Life

QuestionAnswer
What is inquiry? a search for information and explanations focused on specific questions
What is discovery science? accurately described natural structures through careful observation and analysis of data
What is data? recorded observations
What is qualitative data? recorded descriptions
What is quantitative data? recorded measurements
What is inductive reasoning? generalizations made based on many specific observations
What is a hypothesis? a tentative answer to a well-framed question
What is deductive reasoning? specific conclusions based on generalizations
What is a testable hypothesis? a hypothesis that you can check the validity of the statement
What is a falsifiable hypothesis? a hypothesis that could be proved untrue
What is an experimental group? the normal part of the experiment
What is a control group? the group with one factor thats different
What is a scientific model? a graph, diagram, three-dimensional figure, computer program, or mathematical equation demonstrating scientific data
