TermDefinition
3 groups of back muscles (name insertion) Superficial (insert to bones of upper extremity), Intermediate (Insert into ribs), Deep (involved in head, vertebral column)
Name 5 superficial, and the 3 bones they insert into Trapezius, Latissimus Dorsi, Lavator Scapulae, Rhomboid Major, Rhomboid Minor. Insert into clavicle, scapula, humerus
Trapezius origin (4), insertion (2) (O)medial part of nuchal line, ext. occipital protruberance, lirgamentum nuchae, spinous processes of c7-t12. (I)lateral third of clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula.
Trapezius action (3), innervation (3) (A) upper fibers elevate scapula, Middle fibers pull scapula medially, lower fibers pull medial border of scapula downward. (I)Cranial nerve XI (accessory nerve), c3 and c4 sensory
Lat Dorsi origin (5), insertion (1) (O) lower six thoracic, lumbar, sacral; posterior iliac crest, lower 3/4 ribs. (I)intertubercular (bicipital) groove of humerus
Lat Dorsi action (4), innervation (1) extends, adducts, medially rotaes the humerus, raises body during climbing
Levator Scapulae origin (2), insertion (1) (O) Transverse process of the upper 4 cervical vertibrae (I) Medial border of scapula
Levator Scapulae action (1), innervation (3) (A) Helps stabilize, elevate, inferiorly rotate scapula (I) c3 and c4; dorsal scapular nerve
Rhomboid Minor origin (1), insertion (1) (O) Lower part of the ligamentum nuchae and spinous processes of c7 and t1 (I) Both insert medial border of scapula
Rhomboid Minor action (1), innervation (1) (A) Both stabilize, retract, inferiorly rotate scapula. (I) Both Dorsal scapular nerve
Rhomboid major origin (1), insertion (1) (O) Spinous processes of t2-t5
Rhomboid major action (1), innervation (1) (A) Both stabilize, retract, inferiorly rotate scapula. (I) Both Dorsal scapular nerve

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
