Reading- Elements

Story Elements

TermDefinition
Character A person, or sometimes even an animal, who takes part in the action of a short story or other literacy work
Setting The time and place of a story
Plot A series of events and character actions that relate to the central conflict
Conflict Also called the "problem"- a struggle between two people or things in a story
Theme The central idea or belief in a story
Solution Also called the "resolution"- how a conflict or problem is solved
