Cells Unit 1
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Nucleous | A dark spot inside the Nucleus that stores the material that will be used later to make ribosomes. |
| Ribosome | Small structure on which cells make their own proteins |
| Lysosome | Special vesicles containing enzymes |
| Golgi Bodies | Sorts protein and other cellular substances and package them into membrane-bound structures |
| Mitochondrion | Cell organelle where food is broken down, which releases energy. |
| Nucleus | Organelle that controls all the activities of a cell. |
| Chloroplast | Green, chlorophlly-containing, plant-cell, organelle, that captures light energy, which is used to make sugar. |
| Cell Wall | Rigid structure that encloses, supports, and protects the cells of plants, algae, fungi, and most bacteria (outside part of the cell membrane). |
| Cell Membrane | The protective layer surrounding every cell. |
| Central Vacuole | Sucks up all the water. |
| Cell Theory | States that all organisms are made up of one or more cells, the cell is the basic unit of life and all cells come from other cells |
| Cytoplasm | Constantly moving gelatinlike mixture inside the cell membrane that contains heredity material and is the location of most of a cells life processes |
| Organelle | Any number of organized or specialized structures within a living cell |
| Tissue | A group of similar cells that work together to do one job |
| Organ | Structure, such as the heart, made up of different types of tissues that all work together |
| Organ System | A group of organs working together to preform a certain function |
| Mitochondria | Organelles where energy is released when food is broken down into carbon dioxide and water. |
