Ribosome Small structure on which cells make their own proteins
Lysosome Special vesicles containing enzymes
Golgi Bodies Sorts protein and other cellular substances and package them into membrane-bound structures
Mitochondrion Cell organelle where food is broken down, which releases energy.
Nucleus Organelle that controls all the activities of a cell.
Chloroplast Green, chlorophlly-containing, plant-cell, organelle, that captures light energy, which is used to make sugar.
Cell Wall Rigid structure that encloses, supports, and protects the cells of plants, algae, fungi, and most bacteria (outside part of the cell membrane).
Cell Membrane The protective layer surrounding every cell.
Central Vacuole Sucks up all the water.
Cell Theory States that all organisms are made up of one or more cells, the cell is the basic unit of life and all cells come from other cells
Cytoplasm Constantly moving gelatinlike mixture inside the cell membrane that contains heredity material and is the location of most of a cells life processes
Organelle Any number of organized or specialized structures within a living cell
Tissue A group of similar cells that work together to do one job
Organ Structure, such as the heart, made up of different types of tissues that all work together
Organ System A group of organs working together to preform a certain function
