Food Chain

| Food Chain | is the sequence of who eats whom in a biologic community. | Grassland Biome: grass, grasshopper, rat, snake, hawk |
| Producer (primary) | organisms that produce their own energy-food. | Grassland Biome: grass, grasshopper, rat, snake, hawk In this food chain grass would be the producer. |
| Primary Consumer | are animals that eat primary producers. Are,also, called herbivores. | Grassland Biome: grass, grasshopper, rat, snake, hawk The primary consumer in this food chain would be the grasshopper. |
| Secondary Consumer | animals that eat primary consumers. | Grassland Biome: grass, grasshopper, rat, snake, hawk The secondary consumer in this food chain would be the rat. |
| Tertiary Consumer | animals that eat secondary consumers. | Grassland Biome: grass, grasshopper, rat, snake, hawk The tertiary consumer in this food chain would be the snake. |
| Quaternary Consumer | animals that eat tertiary consumers. | Grassland Biome: grass, grasshopper, rat, snake, hawk The quaternary consumer in this food chain would be the hawk. |
| Autotrophs | is another name for primary producers. | Grassland Biome: grass, grasshopper, rat, snake, hawk In this food chain grass would be the primary producer. |
| Heterotrophs | is another name for primary consumers. | Grassland Biome: grass, grasshopper, rat, snake, hawk The primary consumer in this food chain would be the grasshopper. |
| Herbivores | are consumers that only eat plants. | Examples: grasshoppers, caterpillars |
| Carnivores | consumers that eat only meat. | Examples: snakes, sharks |
| Omnivores | consumers that eat both plants and meat. | Examples, humans and raccoons |
