What is used for proctitis hydrocortisone enemas
What anti-inflammatory are used for Ulcerative colitis? sulfas, PO steroids, and IV if PO not working
At what point are immunosuppresents used in Ulcerative Colitis? severe disease-10-25 stools/day, fever, malaise, wt loss, anorexia, tachycardia, dehydration
What type of diet is good for ulcerative colitis patients? high cal, high protein, and low residue
What is the expected output for an ileostomy? 200ml/24hours
Where does Crohn's occur? mostly the intestine, but can occur from mouth to anus
What causes Crohn's? unknown, but thought to be an autoimmune disorder
What is elevated in the stool of Crohn's pts? TNF-a
What should the results of an guaiac test be for a Crohn's pt? negative
what are some extra-intestinal complication that can result from Crohn's? Arthritis, liver disease, cholelithiasis, ankylosis spondylitis, pyoderma gangrenosum, erythema nodosum, nephrolithiasis, colon CA is twice as likely
In Crohn's what drug is used if perianal area is affected? Metronidazole
When is Remicade (Infliximab) used? for TNF-a, but doesn't always work
Does surgery cure Crohn's or UC? only UC
In IBS which symptom is more predominate in males? In females? males=D, females=constipation
In regards to nutrition what is an important component with IRS? fiber
What med is used for D? for constipation? D-Alosteron, Constipation-Zelnorm
