| density current | currents on bottom, made from salt/temperature |
| salinity | amount of salt in the ocean |
| breaker | wave collapsing |
| basin | low areas that filled with ocean water |
| crest | top of wave |
| trough | bottom of wave |
| continental shelf | gradual slope lots of life |
| continental slope | extends from the shelf to the bottom of the floor, big drop |
| abyssal plain | flat seafloor deep |
| mid-ocean ridge | new floor forms here, mountains |
| trench | steep depression at a subduction zone |
| photosynthesis | process where producers make energy from the sun |
| chemosynthesis | process where producers make energy from nitrogen and sulfur |
| plankton | marine organisms that drift in currents |
| Nekton | animals that can actively swim |
| Benthos | plants and animals living on the bottom of the seafloor |
