Biology bbio-life ology-study of study of living things
Organism the scientific word for living things ex. bald eagle
Habitat an enviroment that provides the things a specific organism needs to live, grow and reporduce ex. forest habitat
Biotic Factors the parts of a habitat that are living or once living and interact with an organism ex. plants
Abiotic Factors not all the factors that organisms interact with are living ex. sunlight
Species is a group of organism that can mate with each other and produce offspring that can also mate and reproduce ex. pairie dogs
Population all the members of one species living in a particular area ex. pairie dog town
Ecosystem the community of organisms that live in a particular area along with their non-living enviroment ex. all the living and nonling things that interact on the pairie
Ecology the study of how organisms interact with each other and with each other and with their envorment
Community all the differnt populations that that live together in an area ex. all the living things that interact on the pairie
Birth Rate the number of births per 1,000 individuals for a given time period
Death Rate the number of deaths 1,000 individuals for a given time period.
Immigration moving into a population ex. if food is not scarce in a community organism might immigrate
Emmigration leaving a population ex. if food is scarce then an organism might emmigrate
Population Density the number of individuals in an area of a specific size
Limiting Factor is an environmental factor that causes a population to stop growing. ex. weather conditions
Carrying Capacity the largest population that an area can support ex. in one giraffe habitat its 10 habitat
