| Habitat | an environment that provides the things a specific organism needs to live, grow, and reproduce | desert, prairie, lake, etc. |
| Biotic Factor | a living or once living part of an organism's habitat | plants, animals, bacteria, etc. |
| Abiotic Factor | a nonliving part of an organism's habitat | sunlight, soil, temperature, oxygen, water, etc. |
| Species | a group of similar organisms that can mate with each other and produce offspring that can also mate and reproduce | bears, dogs, humans, etc. |
| Population | all the members of one species living in the same area | Prairie dogs in Nebraska,kangaroos in Africa, etc. |
| Community | all the different populations that live together in a particular place | In a prairie are hawks, snakes and grasses, etc. |
| Ecosystem | the community of organisms that live in particular area, along with their nonliving environment | Prairie, desert, ocean, pond, forest, etc. |
