Biology Bio-life logy- Study of Biology is the Study of Life
Organism Scientific word for living things
Habitat An environment that provides the things a specific organism needs to live, grow, and reproduce is called its habitat.
Biotic Factors The parts of a habitat that are living, or once living, and interact with an organism.
Abiotic Factor The nonliving parts of an organism's habitat.
Species A group of organisms that can mate with each other and produce offspring that can also mate and reproduce.
Population All the members of one species living in a particular area.
Community All the different populations that live together in an area.
Ecosystem The Community of organisms that live in a particular area, along with their non-living environment.
Ecology The study of how organisms interact with each other and with their environment.
Birth Rate The number of births per 1000 indiviuals.
Death Rate The number of deaths per 1000 indiviuals.
Immigration Moving into a population.
Emmigration Leaving a population
Population Density The number of indiviuals in an area of a specific size.
Limiting Factor An environmental factor that causes a population to stop growing or decrease in size.
Carrying Capacity The largest population that an area can support.
Example of Organism Example-You are an organism.
Example of Habitat Example- My habitat would be Perth Amboy, NJ, as it is now.
Example of Biotic Factors Example- A animal.
Example of Abiotic factors. Example- The soil in the Earth.
Example of Species Example- Humans are a species.
Example of Population Example- If there are a group of animals living in a forest, and there were seven wild dogs and two deer, the seven dogs would be the dog population of that area, and the deer, the deer population.
Example of Community Example- If there was a group of deer and porcupines living in an area, those two populations together would be the community.
Example of Ecosystem Example-Us humans along with the soil of the earth, the oxygen of the air, and the rays of the sun would be the ecosystem in the area of Perth Amboy.
Example of Birth Rate Example-In 1,000 indiviuals, 900 successfully gave birth.
Example of Death Rate Example-Out of 1,000 indiviuals, 100 died.
Example of Immigration Example-People coming into the United States.
Example of Emmigration Example-People leaving the United States.
Example of Population Density Example- 100 people per square mile.
Example of Limiting Factor Example- A disease that discourages having babies.
Example of Carrying Capacity Example- In Denny's perhaps, the restaurant can fit only fifty people.
