| microorganisms | These are organisms that are made of just one cell. |
| kingdoms | Scientists divide organisms into these six categories. |
| cells | These are the basic unit of all living things. |
| cell membrane | This is the boundary that separates the inside of the cell from the outside of the cell. |
| organization | This is one of the common characteristics of all living things. An example of this is when an organism has an outside and an inside. |
| growth | This is one of the common characteristics of all living things. It is when living things increase in size. |
| reproduction | This is one of the common characteristics of all living things. It is when living things form new organisms like themselves |
| binary fission | This is when one cell separates into two cells making an exact copy of itself. |
| deoxyribonucleic acid | DNA |
| DNA | This "code" contains an individual organisms characteristics. |
| response | This is one of the common characteristics of all living things. This is when an organism responds to changes in its environment. |
| energy, materials and living space | Things that all living things need. |
| virus | This is not alive. It is genetic material enclosed in a protein shell. |
