what is a hurricane? A hurricane is a tropical cyclone (rotates counterclockwise and is an intense low pressure system) with sustained winds above 120 kilometers per hour (75 mph) or greater.
what is a tornado? A tornado is a narrow, violent, funnel-shaped column of spiral winds that extend downward from a cloud toward the earth.
what is the jet stream? The jet stream is a fast moving river of wind that is found at the top of the troposphere or at the bottom of the stratosphere.
how is atmosphere warmed? radiation
what is the major cause of weather? Convection in the atmosphere
how can weather be predicted? using cloud type
what are the tools used to measure weather? thermometers for temperature, barometers for barometric pressure (weight of the atmosphere), and psychrometers to measure relative humidity (amount of moisture (water vapor) in the air).
warm air is ? less dense than cold air.
Cold air masses are associated with? cold fronts
warmer temperatures? increase convection
