What creates weather? transfer of energy between the Earth's surface and atmosphere
What are the 4 major factors that affect climate? Latitude, elevation proximity to oceans and position relative to mountains
What are the 3 major climatic zones? tropical, temperature, and polar
What is the amount of energy reaching the Earth's surface controlled by? the angle of sunlight striking the surface and varies with the seasons
Which areas recieve sunlight at the highest angle? areas near the equator
WHat are winds createed by? uneven heating of the Earth's surface
Where does a land breeze occur? the ocean front when wind blows from head to sea
What is the jet stream? a fast moving river of wind that is found at the top of the troposphere
What is the atmosphere warmed by? convection
What is the major cause of weather? convection in the atmosphere
