What does weather describe? Weather describes the current state of the atmosphere or day to day changes in atmospheric conditions.
What does climate describe? Climate describes the typical or average weather patterns of certain locations over a period of many years.
What four major facts affect climate? Latitude, elevation, proximity to oceans and position relative to mountains.
What is the jet stream? The jet stream is a fast moving river of wind that is found at the top of the troposphere or at the bottom of the stratosphere.
What pressure systems ride on the jet stream? Low Pressure
What is the atmosphere warmed by? Radiation, conduction and convection.
Wwhat is a tornado? A tornado is a narrow, violent, funnel-shaped column of spiral winds that extend downward from a cloud toward the Earth.
What is a hurricane? A hurricane is a tropical cyclone with sustained winds above 120 kilometers per hour (75 mph) or greater.
Which way does a hurricane rotate? It rotates counterclockwise.
What pressure system is a hurricane? An intense low pressure system.
How are fronts named? Fronts are named for the air mass that is advancing.
