What makes our atmosphere different from other planets? It contains large amounts of oxygen
What areas will absorb more heat? Highly vegetated areas
What reduces the amount of oxygen in the air? The oxidation of metals and animals (oxygen sinks)
What reduces the amount of carbon dioxide in the air? Plants (photosynthesis) and oceans. (carbon sinks)
Carbon sinks reduce the amount of what in the atmosphere? They reduce the amount of atmosphere
what controls and changes earth's climate? Relativity of the surface, amount and types of gasses in the atmosphere, cloud coverage, volcanic eruption, vegetation, and meteor impacts
What are good insulators of heat and can cause global warming? Water vapor, carbon dioxide, and clouds
What is the current atmosphere made up of? 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% trace gasses.
What is the effect of meteor impacts? They can place huge amounts of dust in the atmosphere, set of fires, and can increase the amount of volcanic activity
What have humans added to the atmosphere? (hint: caused by the burning of fossil fuels) Carbon- dioxide
What made it possible for animal life to thrive? When plants consumed carbon dioxide in the air to create oxygen.
What affects the atmospheres ability to hold heat? Biologic activity
Why did earth's atmosphere float in space? Because the earth;s gravity was not strong enough to hold the gasses ( hydrogen and helium)
What can be caused by volcanic eruptions? A decrease in global temperature, increase in condensation, blocking of sunlight, forest or wild fires, and added smoke and ash to the atmosphere.
