What are major issues concerning our oceans? Over-fishing, human pollution, and oil spills
What do currents in the ocean do? currents distribute heat by carrying warm water from equator to poles and cold water from the poles to the equator.
What are tides? tides are the periodic rise and fall of the water level caused by the moon and sun.
What does el nino do? El Nino which affects weather patterns world wide is caused when upwelling stops off the coast of Peru and water warms.
What is a major mechanism of energy transfer in the oceans? Convection is the major mechanism of energy transfer in the oceans, atmosphere and the Earth’s Interior
what do you call a geographical map of the ocean? A Bathymetric map
What are seafloor features caused by? plate tectonics, the features are mid-ocean ridges and trenches
what and where is an abyssal plain? is the relatively flat seafloor from the continental rise to the mid- ocean ridge The basement or parent rock below the abyssal plain are oceanic rocks (basalt)
