What is science based on? Evidence
Why do scientists remain objective? Because their peers review their work.
When could scientific ideas change? When new data and information is collected.
What is observation? Using the five senses to note facts and gather information about the world.
What is inference? A possible explanation or guess about an observation.
Inferences are conclusions based on what? A small set of data.
What is the order of scientific method? 1. Problem - Purpose 2. Research 3. Hypothesis 4. Experiment 5. Analyze Data 6. Draw Conclusion
What is hypothesis? A testable "If...then..." statement about a problem.
What are variables? Changeable factors
What is an independent variable? The factor that is purposefully changed or manipulated.
What is a dependent variable? The factor that changes because of the independent variable.
What are constants? Factors that are kept the same for all groups in an experiment.
What are theories? Explanations for observed patterns in nature.
What is scientific methodology? A range of methods for investigating phenomena, for collecting new knowledge, or amending and collating previously obtained knowledge.
