What is the difference b/w Terrestrial and Jovian? Terrestrial: small rocky, high density inner planets inside the asteroid belt Jovian: large gaseous, low density outer planets, outside the asteroid belt.
What is the order of the planets from the sun? 1. Mercury, 2. Venus, 3. Earth, 4. Mars, 5. Jupiter, 6. Saturn, 7. Uranus, 8. Neptune
What is summer solstice? (direct rays strike Tropic of Cancer) is June 21st (1st day of summer) and is the longest day shortest night.
What is winter solstice? (direct rays strike the Tropic of Capricorn) is December 21st (first day of winter) and is the shortest day longest night.
What makes earth unique? Because of its position and distance from the sun it has water in all three states: solid, liquid and gas. It is the only planet to have life probably because it has water, oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen.
What is the sun mostly made up of and how does it produce heat? the sun is mostly made up of hydrogen and helium and produces heat by fusion (combining of atoms)
What is the Impact theory? states that the Moon formed when a large object struck the Earth and material from inside the Earth was ejected out in space and this material formed the moon. This is the most widely accepted theory.
What is an Equinox? Equinoxes occur when the sun is directly over the Equator and there is equal amounts of day and night (12 hours of day, 12 hours of night)
what does a planetary orbiter and land rovers provide us with? planetary orbiter: provide us with specific info about planets Land-rovers: are used to discover many features on a planets surface
What is the difference b/w solar and lunar eclipses? solar eclipse: occurs when the Moon’s blocks the sunlight and a shadow falls on the Earth. (Order is Sun, Moon, Earth) Lunar eclipse: occurs when the Earth’s blocks the sunlight and a shadow falls on the Moon. (Order is Sun, Earth, and Moon)
