QuestionAnswer
Even though the Earth's atmosphere has changed over geological time, what is significant about or solar system? It contains a substantial amount of oxygen.
Why did the earliest atmosphere, containing hydrogen and helium, float into outer space? The Earth's gravity wasn't strong enough to hold the gases.
What made animal life possible? Animal was possible after early photosynthetic plant life (like cyanobacteria algea) consumed carbon dioxide and increase the amount of oxygen.
Plants and oceans are carbon sinks, how is Carbon Dioxide readily absorbed? By oceans helping reduce the amount of atmosphere in the atmosphere.
What do oxygen sinks do? Oxygen sinks reduce the amount in oxygen in the atmosphere.
Climate is controlled and changed by a number of factors, what are these factors? The factors are reflectivity of the surface, the amount and types of gases in the atmosphere, amount of cloud cover, volcanic eruptions, vegetation cover and meteor impacts.
How does a clouds high reflectivity help it? A clouds high reflectivity helps prevent heat from reaching the surface.
What are three good insulators of heat which can also cause global warming? Water vapor, carbon dioxide, and clouds.
Which absorbs more heat: vegetation or non-vegetated areas? Vegetation
How can volcanic eruptions cause a decrease in temperatures? The ash blocks the sunlight directly or by ash increasing the amount of condensation nuclei in the atmosphere.
How can meteor impacts set off forest fires? The impacts can place huge amounts of dust in the air which can set off forest fires.
