QuestionAnswer
Tropical rainforest warm temperature and abundant rainfall, lush think forests
Grassland warm summers with a dry season and a rainy season. Tall grasses with scattered trees
Desert Almost no rain fall. Vegetation store water of have deep root systems
Temperate frost hot in simmer and cold in winter precipitation spaced evenly over the year mainly deciduous trees
Taiga long cold winters and coniferous trees
Tundra very cold most of the year very little precitation ground is permanently frozen and mosses and low lying plants survive
Density dependent factor Increasing population size reduces available resources limiting population growth
Density independent factor A factor that affects the size of a population independent or regardless of the population density.
predator/prey relationship A predator is an organism that eats another organism. The prey is the organism which the predator eats
intraspecific competition competition between organisms of the same species
symbiosis competition between organisms of different species
parasitism long-term interaction between two or more different biological species
Commensalism relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is harmed
Mutualism a relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is neither harmed or helped
Terrestrial succession a relationship in which both organisms benefits
pioneer species A series of regular, predictable changes in the structure of a community over time.
climax community first species to inhabit an area and are often fast growing plants that can tolerate full sun
primary succession occurs when succession slows down and stable community is established
secondary succession when succession occurs in an area completely lacking vegetation and soil
aquatic pond succession when succession occurs in an area after an ecological disturbance like a forest fire
competition A geological event, such as a glacier or sink hole, can create a pond
predation a contest between organisms , animals , groups
symbiosis an animal that is hunting (finding its prey)
succession predictable change in the sequence of species that established in a particular area over time
photosynthesis process used by plants and other autotrophic organisms to convert light energy
mitochondria membrane-enclosed organelle found in most eukaryotic cells
chloroplast organelles found in plant cells and some other eukaryotic organisms
cellular respiration metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
