Name the 3 early astronomers? Ptolemy, Copernicus, and Tycho Brahe
what is one light-year unit equal to? The distance that light travels in 1 year (9.5 trillion Kilometers/6 trillion miles)
How are stars created? Started through a ball of gas and dust, gravity pulls the gas and dust together into a nebula, nuclear fusion combines hydrogen atoms
How do a stars end? stars usually slowly burn out like a candle(red giant) or sometimes they explode (super nova)or into black holes
What is the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram a graph that shows relationship b/w a star's surface temperature and absolute magnitude
What is a black hole? an object that is so massive that even light cannot escape it's gravity
What is a galaxy? a collection of stars, dust, and gas held together by gravity
What are spiral galaxies and a example of one? have a bulge at the center and spiral arms (ex: milky way)
What are elliptical galaxies? a massive blob of stars
what is the difference b/w meteors and asteroids? Asteroid: a small, rocky body that orbits the sun, left over material from the formation of a solar system Meteors: are most likely pieces of an asteroid, and it is the bright streak of dust left by a meteorite as it burns up in our atmosphere.
What is a comet? it moves around the ins like planets (ellipses) tail always points away from the Sun.
