Cell Membrane Protects the cell from things that shouldn't enter the cell by allowing only certain specific materials to pass through while keeping others out.
Cell Wall Gives the cell its shape and provides protection; not found in animal cells.
Chloroplasts Site of photosynthesis. Where food for plant cells is made.
Chromosomes Rod-shaped bodies that carry genetic information.
Cytoplasm Watery/jelly like material which contains many of the materials.
Endoplasmic Reticulum Serves as a pathway for the transport of materials throughout the cell.
Golgi Bodies An organelle that receives proteins, packages them, and distributes them
Mitochondria Powerhouse of the cell. Produces energy.
Nuclear Membrane The nuclear membrane surrounds the nucleus, protects the nucleus, and lets things in and out of the the cell.
Nucleus Directs all cell actions, including reproduction.
Ribosomes Produces proteins.
Vacuole Stores water, food, waste and more for a plant cell.
Prokaryote A cell without a nucleus.
Eukaryote A cell with a nucleus.
Mitosis Normal cell division, which goes on throughout life in all parts of the body
Meisos The special cell division that creates the gametes(sperms and eggs).
Monomer Small unit that can join together with other small units.
Polymer Large compounds formed from combinations of many monomers.
Carbonhydrates Compound made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms; major source of energy for the human body.
Lipids Made mainly from carbon and hydrogen atoms; includes fats, oils, and waxes.
Proteins substance that has amino acids, compounds and carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sometimes sulfur and is found in many foods.
Nucleic Acids molecules used to store, transfer, and modify genetic information.
