Weathering

QuestionAnswer
What is weathering? The process which rocks are broken down chemically and physically by the action of water, air, and organisms into smaller pieces.
What is chemical weathering? When rocks are broken down into smaller pieces and they are changed into a new rock or mineral. One of the ways we get metamorphic rocks.
What is physical weathering? When rocks are broken down into smaller pieces but they stay the same type of rock.
What is erosion? The process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents.
Weathering, erosion, and deposition is what kind of process? An interrelated process
What are two types of weathering? Mechanical and Chemical
How do glaciers cause erosion and deposition? As glaciers moved and shifted they picked up rocks and sediments moving the mto new places.
What causes both erosion and weathering? Ice, wind, water, and gravity
What is saltation? the process of skipping sand grains
What does chemical and mechanical weathering have in common? they both can break down rocks faster than other processes
