| Solar Nebula Theory | The most widely accepted theory on how solar system and stars form. |
| Solar Nebula | Huge, vast clouds of ice, gas and dust. |
| The Hertzsprung - Russell (H-R) Diagram | Shows the relationship between absolute magnitude (brightness) in relation to their surface temperatures |
| Galaxy | A collection of billions of stars |
| Black Hole | The end of the life cycle of some supergiant stars |
| Light Year | The distance light travels in one year; most common unit of measurement used in Astronomy |
| Asteroids | Pieces of broken planet and are found in the Asteroid Belt |
| Comets | Orbit the sun and are made of up frozen gases, whose tails point away from the sun due to solar wind |
| Meteoroids | Left over pieces of a comet's tail floating in space |
| Meteor | When meteoroids enter the Earth's atmosphere where they burn up |
| Meteorite | When a meteor strikes Earth |
| Solstice | When the Sun is at its most northern point (over the Tropic of Cancer) or at its most southern point (over the Tropic of Cancer) |
| Impact Theory | States that the Moon formed when a large object struck the Earth and material from inside the Earth was ejected out in space and this material formed the Moon |
| Waning Phases | When the left side of the moon is visible (lit) |
| Waxing Phaes | When the right side of the mooon is visible (lit) |
| Solar Eclipse | Occurs when the Moon's blocks the sunlight and a shadow falls on the Earth |
| Lunar Eclipse | Occurs when the Earth's blocks the sunlight and a shadow falls on the Moon |
