QuestionAnswer
Cell Membrane A thin structure that surrounds the cytoplasm and nucleus of plant and animal cells
Cell Wall It is a barrier that gives protection and structure to the cell. They are only found in plant cells and bacterial cells.
Chloroplasts Creates food for the plant cell or known as photosynthesis.
Chromosomes Located in the nucleus, they contain the code that controls the cell and transmits heredity characteristics
Cytoplasm A jelly like substance filling the cell that holds the organelles together
Endoplasmic Reticulum An organelle found throughout the cytoplasm that transports material through a cell
Golgi Bodies Manufactures and moves material in the cytoplasm of a cell
Mitochondria An organelle in the cytoplasm that produces energy within the cell.
Nuclear Membrane A thin layer that surrounds the nucleus and seperates it from the rest of the cell.
Nucleus The control center for most of the cells activities
Ribosomes Located on the endoplasmic reticulum, it provides proteins to the cells.
Vacuole They are found in the cytoplasm to where they store water, food, and wastes in a cell. There are many in a animal cell, one big one in plant cells
Prokaryote A one celled organism that does not have a membrane-bound nucleus or organelles it also includes all archaebacteria and eubacteria.
Eukaryote An organism made up of cells that have a membrane-bound nucleus and other organelles.
Mitosis During a cell division, the process in which the material from the nucleus divides.
Meiosis A cell division that produces sex cells (eggs or sperm), which have only half the chromosomes of the parent cell.
Monomer A molecule of low molecular weight capable of reacting with identical or different molecules of low molecular weight to form a polymer.
Polymer A large molecule made up of chains or rings of linked monomer units.
Carbohydrates Molecules made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, which is the product of photosynthesis; sugars and starches are examples.
Lipids Organic compounds that are composed of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
Proteins A class organic compounds found in living things that are essential for life.
Nucleic Acids Any of a group of long, linear macromolecules, either DNA or various types of RNA, that carry genetic information directing all cellular functions: composed of linked nucleotides.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
