| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Cell Membrane | A thin structure that surrounds the cytoplasm and nucleus of plant and animal cells |
| Cell Wall | It is a barrier that gives protection and structure to the cell. They are only found in plant cells and bacterial cells. |
| Chloroplasts | Creates food for the plant cell or known as photosynthesis. |
| Chromosomes | Located in the nucleus, they contain the code that controls the cell and transmits heredity characteristics |
| Cytoplasm | A jelly like substance filling the cell that holds the organelles together |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | An organelle found throughout the cytoplasm that transports material through a cell |
| Golgi Bodies | Manufactures and moves material in the cytoplasm of a cell |
| Mitochondria | An organelle in the cytoplasm that produces energy within the cell. |
| Nuclear Membrane | A thin layer that surrounds the nucleus and seperates it from the rest of the cell. |
| Nucleus | The control center for most of the cells activities |
| Ribosomes | Located on the endoplasmic reticulum, it provides proteins to the cells. |
| Vacuole | They are found in the cytoplasm to where they store water, food, and wastes in a cell. There are many in a animal cell, one big one in plant cells |
| Prokaryote | A one celled organism that does not have a membrane-bound nucleus or organelles it also includes all archaebacteria and eubacteria. |
| Eukaryote | An organism made up of cells that have a membrane-bound nucleus and other organelles. |
| Mitosis | During a cell division, the process in which the material from the nucleus divides. |
| Meiosis | A cell division that produces sex cells (eggs or sperm), which have only half the chromosomes of the parent cell. |
| Monomer | A molecule of low molecular weight capable of reacting with identical or different molecules of low molecular weight to form a polymer. |
| Polymer | A large molecule made up of chains or rings of linked monomer units. |
| Carbohydrates | Molecules made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, which is the product of photosynthesis; sugars and starches are examples. |
| Lipids | Organic compounds that are composed of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. |
| Proteins | A class organic compounds found in living things that are essential for life. |
| Nucleic Acids | Any of a group of long, linear macromolecules, either DNA or various types of RNA, that carry genetic information directing all cellular functions: composed of linked nucleotides. |
