axis the imaginary line that passes through Earth's center from the North Pole to the South Pole (Earth rotates on its axis every 24 hours)
rotation the spinning of Earth on its axis (one rotation equals one day; Earth rotates from west to east on its axis, making the sun, moon and starts look as though they are moving from east to west)
revolution one complete trip of Earth around the sun (one revolution equals one year)
orbit Earth's path around the sun; in the shape of an ellipse or flattened circle
hemisphere one half of a sphere; especially of the earth
phases of the moon the regular changes in the way the moon looks from Earth; caused by changes in the parts of the moon that reflects light from the sun to Earth
eclipse one object in space casting its shadow on another object in space
shadow a dark shape made by something blocking out light
