What are the three interrelated processes? Weathering, erosion and deposition
What is the process which rocks are broken down chemically and physically into smaller pieces? Weathering
What are the actions that cause weathering? Water, air and organisms
What is it called when rocks are broken down into smaller pieces and are changed into a new rock or mineral? Chemical weathering
What is physical weathering? When rocks are broken down into smaller pieces but they stay the same type of rock.
How is soil formed? From the weathering of rock and organic activity
What is soil composed of? Loose rock fragments and clay that comes from weathered rocks and is mixed with organic material (humus).
What is erosion? The process by which materials are physically incorporated and transported (moved) by water, ice and wind
What is deposition? The process by which Earth materials that are transported by water, ice and wind settle and are left in a location when energy levels decrease.
What kind of materials are deposited first? Larger, heavier
Deposition is influenced by the size of the material and the amount of the __________ energy. Available
