| producer | organism that make it own food |
| reproduce | to make more organisms of the same kind |
| survival | ability to live or exist |
| trait | characteristic of a object or an organism |
| species | group of organisms that can mate and produce offspring like themselves |
| vertebrates | animals with a backbone |
| invertebrates | animals that can do not have backbones |
| mammals | animals who are warm blooded, give birth to live babies, and breathe with lungs, and have hair or fur |
| amphibians | animals who have smooth moist skin, lay jellylike eggs with no shells, young live in water, and adults live on land |
| fish | animals who live in water, have scales, breathe oxygen in water with gills, lay eggs without shells, or give birth to live young |
| birds | animals who live on land, some spend time in water, have feathers, breathe with lungs, most can fly, lay eggs with hard shells |

| habitat | environment where the same kind of plants and animals live |
| herbivore | animal that only eats plants or plant products |
| hibernate | to sleep through the winter to conserve energy |
| inherited trait | characteristic that is passed from parent to offspring |
| learned behavior | behavior that an animal develops by observing other animals or being taught |
| metamorphosis | changes in structure that an animal goes through in it's life cycle |
| migration | seasonal movement of animals from one place to another |
