Marine ecosystem

TermDefinition
Benthos Plants and animals that live in or near the ocean bottom.ex.kelp,sponges,worms,algae,ect.
Plankton Small and microscopic organisms that moves with the currents.ex.kril,jellyfish,ect.
Nekton Swimming animals that can move independently of the currents.EX.fish,whales,seals some sea birds,eels,ect
Intertidal Zone The shoreline area that falls between the hight tidemark and the low tide mark.
Neritic Zone The ocean that slope down from the edge of the shoreline toward the ocean floor.
Coral Reefs A limestone deposit formed from coral shells.
Upwelling the movment of nutrient-rich waters from the deep ocean into shallow areas brings nurtrient that help some kelp forests to thrive.
Oceanic Zone It is made up of the open waters of the ocean.
Hydrothermal vents It is a crack in the ocean crust communities.
