Biomes Areas that have distinct climates and organisms.
Tropical Rainforests A belt around the earth near the equator.
Canopy Absorbs at least 95% of the subnlight.
Temperate Rainforests Occur in North and South America, Australia, and new zealand.
Temperate dicidous forests Tree's drop their broad flat leaves each fall.
Taiga The northern coniferous which streches in a broad band across the northern hemisphere just below the artic circle.
Savanna's Contains the greatest collection of grazing animals on earth along with the magnificent predators that hunt them.
Temperate Grasslands Found in the interiors of continents where there is to little rainfall for trees to grow.
Chapparel` A biome that occurs in the mid-latitudes.
Deserts Areas that recieve less than 25cm of precipitation a year.
Drough-resistence plants live in the worst and dryest conditions in the desert.
Estivating Burying themselves in the ground and sleeping through the dry season.
Tundra A biome without tall trees that lies north of the artic circle.
Permafrost Permenatly frosen soil.
Littoral Zone The nutrient rich area.
Wetlands Areas of land that are covered with water for at least part of the year.
Estuary Ecosystem which freshwater from river mixes with salt water from the ocean.
Coral Reefs Limestone islands in the sea that are built by coral animals called polyps.
