Vascular Plant A plant with vascular tissue
Sporophyte The stage in life in which a plant releases spores
Gametophyte The stage in which a plant produces sperm
Rhizoid Root like structure that anchors moss
Frond The leaf of a fern plant
Phloem The tissue that food moves through in a plant
Xylem The tissue that water moves through in a plant
Pollen Particles that late become sperm cells
Seed The plant structure that contains a young plant inside a protective case
Embryo Organism that developes in a zygote
Cotyledon A seed leaf
Germination The sprouting of am embryo
Root Cap A structure that covers the tip of a root
Cambium A layer of cells that produces phloem
Transpiration The process in which water is lost in plant
Cone The reproducing of a gymnosperm
Ovule A structure that contains an egg cell
Pollination The transfer of pollen
Flower The reproductive system of an angiosperm
Sepal A leaf that encloses the bud of a flower
Petal Colorful leaf like structure of a flower
Stamen The male reproductive part of a flower
Pistil The female reproductive part of a flower
Ovary A structure in a flower that encloses ovules
Fruit The ripended part of an angiosperm
Monocot Angiosperm with one seed leaf
Dicot Angiosperm with two seed leaves
Tropism The response of a plant to a stimulus
Hormone Chemical in a plant that produces growth in a plant
Auxin Hormone that speeds up the production of plant cells
Photoperidoism Plants response to a seasonal change
Shot day plant A plant that flowers when the nights are longer than the plants night length
Long day plant A plant that flowers when the nights are shorter than the plants night length
Critical night length The number of hours that determines when a plant will flower
Day neutral plant A plant that's flowering period is not affected by either night or day
Dormancy A period when a plant stops growing
Annual A plant that completes growing in one season
Biennial A plant that completes growing on two years
Perennial A plant that completes growing more than two years
