root cap the protective layer of cells that covers the tip of a root
herbaceous plant that is soft & green instead of woody
vascular bundle in a plant, a strand of conducting tissue that contains both xylem & phloem
pith tissue that is located in the center of the stem of most vascular plants & that is used for storage
heartwood nonconducting older wood in the center of a tree trunk
sapwood tissue of the secondary xylem that is distributed around the outside of a tree trunk & is active in transporting sap
petiole stalk that attacks a leaf to the stem of a plant
mesophyll in leaves, the tissue between epidermal layers, where photosynthesis occurs
transpiration process by which plants release water vapor into the air through stomata
source a part of a plant that makes sugars and other compounds & from which these compounds are transported to other parts of the plant
sink any place where a plant stores or uses organic nutrients, such as sugar or starches
translocation movement of a segment od DNA from one chromosome to another, which results in a change in the position of the segment
