| comets | Balls of ice and dust |
| Solar Systm | The sun and all the bodies that orbit around it |
| Orbit | The path of a planet or other object around another object |
| Atmosphere | Layers of air around the earth |
| Gravity | The force that pulls objects toward the center of the earth |
| Meteorites | Falling chunks of rocks and metal |
| Asteroid Belt | The area between the inner and outer planets; It is filled with thousands and thousands of asteroids |
| Year | the time it takes for a planet to go all the way around the sun |
| Black Hole | Great big vacuum cleaners in space which sucks up everything around them;Created when a dying star collapses on itself. |
| Nova | A star which has just exploded |
| Supernova | A star which has just exploded with much more force than a nova;More rare than novas |
| Quasar | The brightest objects in the universe,they give off huge amounts of raido and light energy |
| Nebula | A cloud of dust and gas within a galaxy |
| Light Year | Distance light travles in a year;Equals 6 Trillion miles |
| Satellite | An object that orbits a planet; Also called a moon if it is not manmade |
| Milkey Way | A misty band of light seen on most dark nights;It is the densest part of are own galaxy |
