Lymphatic- Ch.21
MTSU Stegall-Faulk Anatomy 2
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| lymphatic fluid | originates from blood plasma |
| functions | transport protein to blood and any foreign substances and fats from intestines. |
| lymph movement | skeletal muscle pump and the thoracic pump |
| lymphatic vessels | found everywhere there is not direct blood suppply like cartalage, ligaments, and tendons. |
| lymphatic capillaries | single layer of simple squamous cells |
| lymphatic vessels | formed by merging of lymphatic capillaries |
| right lymphatic duct | returns lymph to right subclavian vein |
| lymphatic duct | trunks join one of two collecting ducts |
| thoracic duct | returns lymphatic fluid to the left subclavian vein |
| lymphatic cells | nk, t and b cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, reticular |
| t cells | leave bone marrow and mature in the thymus. |
| b cells | mature in bone marrow than move to lymphatic tissues. |
| macrophages | wander through the tissues eating warn or forigen cells |
| APC | antigen presenting cell- activate b and t cells and present antigens to lymphcyte |
| dendritic cell | found in the epidermis, muscle membrane, lyphatic tissues |
| reticular cells | fixed (immoblie) APCs found in the thymus |
| nodules(follicles) | areolar tissue densely packed masses of lymphocytes that contain a germinal center composed of dividing lymphocytes |
| lymph nodes | small, encapsulated lymph organs that are scattered along lymph vessels that act as a filtering system for lymphatic fluid. |
| nodes structure | bean shaped, subcapsular sinus fluid flows into node and into sinus |
| hilus | how vessels exit the node |
| thymus | largest at puberty, atrophies with age, programed not to distroy own tissues |
| thymosins | released by reticular cells. helps train t cells |
| spleen | same filter like the lymph for the lymphatic system |
| function of the spleen | removal of abnormal blood cells, storage of recycled iron, platelet storage(1/3), initiates immune response by b and t lymphocytes to antigens in the blood |
| structure of the spleen | surrounded by a connective tissue capsule that invaginates forming lobules that contain 2 pulps |
| white pulp | lymphatic tissue |
| red pulp | fills the remains spaces of the lobules |
