| community | a group of plants and animals living together |
| competition | the struggle between organisms for the same living space and food |
| consumer | organisms that feed on other plants and animals |
| crepusculor | animals active at dawn and dusk |
| decay | the breakdown of plants and animals |
| decomposer | organisms that break down dead plants and animals into new soil |
| diurnal | animals active during the day |
| ectotherm | cold-blooded |
| endotherm | warm-blooded |
| environment | the total surroundings of a plant or animal |
| food chain | the sun's energy being passed on from plants to animals |
| food web | a number of food chains connected within a community |

| insectivore | Animal which feeds on insects or other small invertebrates organisms |
| keystone species | Species of plant or animal that most or all of the other species in an ecosystem are directly or indeirectly dependent on. |
| invasive | A species of plant or animal that outcompetes other species, causing damage to an ecosystem. |
| Native | An organism, plant or animal, that lives in an area naturally without any human involvement. |
