What is a gametes? Vehicles that transfer genes from one parent to the other.
What is a somatic cell? a cell that contains 46 chromosomes; 23 from mom and 23 from dad
what is a locus? a gene specific locations along the chromosome
asexual production a single cell is the parent of the offspring. (gives rises to a clone)
karyotype Chromosomes are arrange from largest to shortest and displays homologous chromosomes.
Sex chromosomes are... XX- females XY males
All other chromosomes other then sex chromosomes are called Autosomes
any cell with two chromosomes sets are called Diploid cell (2n)
any cell with a single set of chromosomes are called Haploid cell (n)
How many chromosomes does a somatic cell have? 46 chromosomes
What are the steps of meiosis? (PMATC) prophase metaphase anaphase telophase cytokinesis
What happens during prophase1? Chromsomes condense homologs begin to physically connect (synapsis) crossing over centrosomes movement and spindle froms nuclear envelope forms microtublers are attached to the kinetochores
what happens during anaphase1? Breakdown of protien cause homologs to separate homologs move towards opposite poles
what happens during telephase and cytokinesis? clevage furrow division of cytoplasm nuclear envelope is form.
