pulmonary function tests (PFTs) non-invasive to measure lung volume, ventilation, diffusing capacity using sirometer. PT breathes thru spirometer, computer calculates the volumes. No smoke or bronchodilators b4 test
arterial blood gas (ABG) checks arterial blood for tissue oxygenation, ventilation, acid base status. B4, document pt temperature and O2 and mech vent
lung scan (ventilation/perfusion scan) (V/Q scan) visual inhalation or IV injection of radioisotopes to create an image of blood flow in the lungs. B4: PT must remove metal objects, they have to lie still for 1 hr during procedure
mantoux intradermal skin test injection of tuberculin to detect TB antibiodies, document dermatitis or rashes, hx of positive test or vaccination for bacille Calmette Guerin, circle and record test side and date of follow up reading
laryngoscopy directly visualize the larynx, NPO
lung biopsy removal of lung tissue by open biopsy or endoscopye with need removes a core of lung tissue. NPO. after, assess resp checking for pneumothorax, air embolism hemoptysis, hemorrhage
blood chem K, Na, Ca, phosporus, glucose, bicarb, BUN, creatinine, protein, albumin, osmolality, alph-antrypsin. NPO
