What rock/mineral is the most abundant in the western part? Slate
What is the Piedmont made of? Comprised of a complex of metamorphic and igneous rocks, overlain in a few places bhy Triassic-age sedimentary beds
What region is west of the Piedmont? The Blue Ridge Mountains
What is the topography of the Blue Ridge? A long, narrow, northeast-southwest trending mountain chain
What is the Blue Ridge Mountains made of? Consists of sedimentary and volcanic rocks
What rock/mineral is most abundant in the Blue Ridge Mountains? Soapstone
What is the name of the oldest rock in the Blue Ridge Mountains? Old Rag Granite - the oldest dated rock in Virginia at 1.2 billion years old
