earth layers
Plate tectonics
| Crust : | The thin and solid outermost layer |
| Mantle : | The layer of the Earth's crust and core |
| Core : | the central part of the earth below th emantle |
| Lithosphere : | the solid outer layer of the earth that consists of the crust and the rigid upper part of the mantle |
| Asthenosphere : | the soft layer of the mantle on which the tectonic plates move |
| Mesosphere : | the strong lower part of the mantle between asthenosphere and the outer core |
| tectonic plate : | a block of the lithosphere that consists of the crust and the rigid, outermost part of the mantle |
| Continental drift : | the hypothesis that states that continents once formed a single landmass, broke up and drifted to their present locations |
| What earth layer(s) are solid? | Continental Crust, Oceanic Crust, Mantle, and Inner core |
| What earth layer(s) are liquid? | Outer Core |
| What is a convection current? | the deepest part of the mantle rises then cools then sinks |
| What causes the core to be divided into two layers? | the heat and pressure |
| What criteria do scientists use two divide the earth into layer ? | Density |
| The boundaries between the Lithospher and Asthenospher are what ? | Mechanical |
| The boundaries between the Crust, Mantle, and Core is what ? | Compositional |
