| biotic potential | growth rate achieved when all members of a population reproduce at maximum capacity |
| immigration | movement INTO a population |
| emigration | movement OUT of a population |
| hunter-gatherer | people who survive solely on wild plants and animals |
| agricultural revolution | transition to a lifestyle based on farming |
| limiting resources | resources that prevent the growth of a population |
| demographic | a graphic that shows the proportion of people at each age level and sex in a population |
| population growth | normally represented by a J-curve on a graph and occurs exponentially |
| demographic transition | represented by 3 stages and characterizes how populations change over time |
| family planning | one method is to increase the time period between the birth of siblings |
| consumption crisis | the use or pollution of natural resources in excess of their rates of renewal |
| environmental refugees | people removed from homes by severe environmental damage |
