Species A group of organisms that share traits and can reproduce fertile offspring.
Competition A struggle between individuals and species for resources such as food, living space, mates, and other resources
adaptation Any variation that makes an organism better suited to its enviroment
evolution A change in a species over time
Darwin The naturalists who proposed the theory of evolution by natural selection.
Mutation permanate changes in an organism
population All of the individuals of a species living in the same area.
Natural Selection The Mechanism of evolution where organisms with the traits best suited to the enviroment survive and reproduce
Variation an inherited trait that makes an individual different from others of its species.
Lamarck The scientists who proposed the Theroy Of Aquired Characteristics
homologous structures body parts of similar origin and structure found in different organisms
adaptation a structure or behavior that helps an organism survive in its enviroment
Darwin the naturalist that observed species in the galapose and devoloped the theory of evolution
geographin isolation when a new species devolopes from a popualtion that is separated by a mountion or an ocean
vestical structures body parts that have no apparent function
radiometric dating using the amount of radioactive element to determine the age of a fossil
embrology the study of depoloping organisms as evidence for evolution
relative dating using rock layers to determine the age of fossils
gene pool all of the genes in a populagtion that are available for reprouduction
fossil the remains of prehistoric organisms found in stone
the fossil record evidence of living organisms found in layers of sedementary rock
DNA evidence evidence for evolution found in by comparing the genes of two different organisms
